Celtic Warrior Multisport Weekend

The Celtic Warrior Multisport Weekend is a two-day festival of triathlon, duathlon, swim/run, and running events at Lilliput Adventure Centre on the shores of Lough Ennell, Co. Westmeath. The 2026 edition on 1–2 August offers Sprint, Olympic, and Half Warrior distances in a relaxed midlands setting. It's one of the more laid-back events on the Irish triathlon calendar — competitive but inclusive, with a strong community atmosphere.

The swim is in Lough Ennell — a large freshwater lake with typically calm conditions. Water temperature in August averages 16–18°C. The bike course uses quiet Westmeath roads through flat midlands terrain — no major climbs, which makes this a fast course for strong cyclists. The run loops through the Lilliput Adventure Centre grounds and lakeshore. The Half Warrior (1.9km swim / 90km bike / 21.1km run) is the headline event and a genuine half-iron distance. The Sprint (750m/23km/5km) and Olympic (1.5km/40km/10km) offer shorter options. The venue doubles as an adventure centre, so families have activities beyond the racing. Post-race refreshments and music round out the weekend.

Lilliput Adventure Centre is on the shores of Lough Ennell, just outside Mullingar, Co. Westmeath — about 1 hour 15 minutes from Dublin via the M4 and 1.5 hours from Galway. Free parking is available at the venue. Mullingar town (10 min) has good hotel and B&B options. The midlands location makes it accessible from most parts of the country as a weekend trip.

The Celtic Warrior fills a similar niche to the Lough Cutra Castle Triathlon (May) — a festival-format multisport weekend. The Half Warrior distance is ideal preparation for Ironman 70.3 Cork (August) or the Hardman Killarney (August) if you're building towards a bigger race.
