About This Event
The Connacht Regional Age Group Championships is the western province's flagship development meet, held at UL Sport Arena in Limerick. The 2026 edition runs 8–10 May in the 50m long-course pool. For Connacht swimmers aged 10–16, this is the key qualifying opportunity for the Irish Summer National Age Group Championships later in the summer.

What to Expect
UL Sport Arena's 50m pool is one of Ireland's best competition venues — modern, well-lit, and purpose-built for championship swimming. The format is heats and finals across three days, covering the full programme of age group events. Morning sessions run heats; evening sessions feature finals. The meet is busy but well-managed, with a mix of first-time provincial competitors and experienced age groupers.
The atmosphere is family-friendly and encouraging. Parents fill the spectator gallery, coaches cluster on poolside, and the warm-up pool runs throughout. For younger swimmers making their first provincial appearance, it can feel like a big step up from club galas — but the structure and support make it manageable.
Who It's For
Open to Swim Ireland registered swimmers in the Connacht region who meet qualifying times. Age groups range from 10-and-under to 16. Qualifying standards are published by Swim Ireland Connacht — they are accessible for committed club swimmers. This is a development event: the goal for most swimmers is to hit times that qualify for the Summer Nationals.

How to Enter
Entries through clubs via the HY-TEK system. Check Swim Ireland Connacht for qualifying times and deadlines. Swim Ireland membership is required. Contact Swim Ireland Connacht for entry queries.
Getting There
UL Sport Arena is on the University of Limerick campus — well signposted from the M7. Free parking is available on campus, though it fills up during morning sessions. Limerick city centre (10 min) has extensive hotel options. The campus itself has limited on-site accommodation during term time. For families travelling from the west, it's typically a same-day trip from Galway (1.5 hours) or Clare.
Related Events
Connacht swimmers who qualify here progress to the Irish Summer National Age Group Championships, held at the same UL Sport Arena venue in July. The Connacht Senior Long Course Championships (May, National Aquatic Centre) covers the senior programme. Swimmers from other provinces compete at their respective regional championships: Swim Ulster (May, Bangor) and Leinster/Munster provincials at their scheduled dates.
