About This Event
The Europe Triathlon Cup — City of Derry is an international elite triathlon event bringing world-class racing to the banks of the River Foyle on 5 September 2026. Five races in one day: Europe Triathlon Cup races for elite men and women, Junior Cup for development athletes, and a Triathlon Ireland National Series age-group race. Over 200 international athletes and up to 500 age-groupers race in a compact city-centre setting.

What to Expect
The course is built around the River Foyle, Ebrington Square, and Queen's Quay — a tight, spectator-friendly city-centre layout designed for both athlete performance and crowd engagement. The elite races feature draft-legal, ITU-standard racing at genuine international pace. The age-group National Series race runs the same course, giving club triathletes the experience of racing an elite-standard course.
The event is part of the biggest sporting weekend on the Derry 2026 calendar — the Waterside Half Marathon runs the following day. The atmosphere is exceptional: Derry is a compact, walkable city and the quayside setting means spectators can see multiple stages of the race from one location. Elite fields include current and former Olympians.
Who It's For
The elite races are invitation/qualification only through European Triathlon and national federation entry. The age-group National Series race is open to Triathlon Ireland members. This is a competitive event — the age-group field is strong, drawn from National Series regulars. For spectators and fans, this is the highest level of triathlon you can watch in Ireland.
