About This Event
The Irish Summer National Age Group Championships is the pinnacle of age group swimming in Ireland — four days of 50m long-course racing at UL Sport Arena in Limerick. The 2026 edition runs 9–12 July and brings together the country's best swimmers aged 12–14 who have qualified through provincial championships earlier in the season. National titles, records, and pathway recognition are on the line.

What to Expect
UL Sport Arena is a world-class 50m venue and the spiritual home of Irish age group swimming. The format is heats in the morning and finals in the evening, with the top 8 from heats progressing to A Finals. Sessions are long and intense — a full programme of individual events and relays across four days. The atmosphere in the spectator gallery is electric during finals, with clubs cheering loudly for their swimmers.
For swimmers competing at nationals for the first time, the step up from provincials is significant: faster fields, larger crowds, and the pressure of representing your club at the highest domestic level. Coach access to poolside is through accreditation only. Live results and livestreaming are typically available through Swim Ireland.
Who It's For
Open to Swim Ireland registered swimmers aged 12–14 who have met the national qualifying time standards. QTs must be achieved at recognised competitions during the qualifying window (typically the current season). Swimmers qualify through provincial championships or other approved meets. This is the top tier of Irish age group competition — only swimmers with genuine national-level times are eligible.

Getting There

Limerick city centre (10 min) has a full range of hotels. Many clubs book group accommodation well in advance — hotels near the campus and in the city fill quickly for nationals week. Families travelling from Dublin (2 hours) or Cork (1.5 hours) often make it a week-long trip.
Related Events
The Age Group Nationals follow the provincial championships (May) and lead into the Youth & Senior Championships two weeks later at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin. Swimmers who age out of age groups (turning 15) move into the youth programme. The Irish Winter Championships (December) is the next major competition in the annual cycle.
