About This Event

The Swim Ulster Age Group & Senior Long Course Championships is the premier provincial meet in the Ulster region — three days of 50m racing at the Aurora Sports & Leisure Centre in Bangor. The 2026 edition runs 1–3 May and serves as the primary qualifier for national-level events later in the summer. For Ulster swimmers, this is the meet where places at the Summer Nationals are earned.

What to Expect

The format follows the standard Swim Ireland provincial championship structure: heats in the morning, finals in the evening. The competition covers age group events (from 10 and under up to 16+) and senior events. The pool is the same 50m venue used for the Irish Open a month earlier, so conditions are familiar for returning swimmers. The meet is well-organised with electronic timing and live results. The atmosphere is competitive but supportive — provincial meets sit between club galas and nationals in intensity. Spectator seating is available but limited. Parent and coach attendance is high, particularly for the younger age groups.

Who It's For

Open to Swim Ireland registered swimmers in the Ulster region who meet the published qualifying times. Age groups range from 10-and-under through to senior. Qualifying standards are published in the Swim Ulster Competition Handbook — they are challenging but a step below national QTs. This is a development pathway event: strong performances here qualify swimmers for the Summer Nationals.
