About This Event
The Ulster Masters Long Course Championships is the provincial 50m championship for masters swimmers (25+) in the Ulster region. Held on 24 May 2026 at the Aurora Sports & Leisure Centre in Bangor, it's a single-day event covering the full masters programme. For masters swimmers in the north, this is the main competitive long-course opportunity outside of the national masters events.

Held annually in May
What to Expect
A single-day meet in the same 50m pool used for the Irish Open and Ulster Age Group Championships. The masters format is typically a timed-finals structure — no morning heats, just straight finals — which keeps the day compact. Age categories run in 5-year bands from 25–29 upward. The atmosphere is noticeably more relaxed than age group or senior championships: masters swimming is competitive but social, and the camaraderie is a feature of the event.
Expect a well-run meet with electronic timing. Fields vary by age group — the 30–44 bands tend to be deepest, while the older categories may have smaller but fiercely competitive fields. Warm-up time is scheduled before competition begins.
Who It's For
Open to masters swimmers aged 25 and over on the day of competition who hold Swim Ireland membership. There are no qualifying times — entry is open to all registered masters swimmers in the Ulster region. This makes it accessible for anyone from fitness swimmers to former internationals returning to competition. 5-year age bands ensure you race against swimmers of a similar age.

How to Enter

Getting There
Aurora Sports & Leisure Centre, Bangor, Co. Down — 30 minutes from Belfast by car or train. The venue has on-site parking. As a single-day event, most masters swimmers drive from Belfast or elsewhere in Ulster without needing overnight accommodation.
Related Events
The Ulster Masters LC is the only provincial masters long-course event in the north. Masters swimmers seeking more competition can enter the Swim Ireland National Masters events (dates TBC) or open water events like the Malahide Swim Series and Gaelforce Trilogy, which welcome masters-age swimmers without age restrictions. The Galway Bay Swim (July) has a strong masters contingent among its relay teams.
